Just picked up a Delta 22-580 13” lunchbox planer. Really happy with it so far, seems to be much better made than my old Ridgid.
Anybody have one of these? I’m looking at adding a chip collection hood and in the process I discovered something odd, Two thumbscrews hold a black sheetmetal plate to the planer, it forms the top of the chip ejection chute. It looks like there is a an air exhaust through this plate coming from the cutter head to push the chips out. The bottom of the plate is bent so that the air is deflected, picture is attached. I can’t tell if this is part of the design or the previous owner modified it.
The exploded view parts diagrams don’t show the bottom of this plate.
Any thoughts?
