Just picked up a Small Bench plane at an estate sale for $3. It has not markings that would indicate Stanley or bailey, a forged bed, looks like stamped frog and ajustment knob. smaller than a Stanley No. 4. Until I can get home and post pics, any Ideas? -- StevieP ~ Micheal Tompkins - you were not here on earth long but left a giant mark on us. RIP Brother |

Just a heads up the stamp frog version of hand planes are pretty much useless, no matter how much time you put into tuning it up the frog allow way to much vibration which cause chatter which results in blade nicks throughout the surface. It may give some decent results in extremely soft woods, but I won’t count on it…sorry for the bad new …BC |

ya, I pretty much assumed that. Figured it would at least make for some nice wall art if nothing else! Thanks for the warning though! -- StevieP ~ Micheal Tompkins - you were not here on earth long but left a giant mark on us. RIP Brother |

if it smaller than a #4 it could be a #3. The blade is worth $3. We’ll wait for the pic’s. -- http://timetestedtools.net - Collecting is an investment in the past, and the future. |

Stamped frog would probably put it in the 50s or 60s age wise. -- We must guard our enthusiasm as we would our life - James Krenov |

Here are a couple pics. Not any writing anywhere I could see. Did some more research, had no idea there were so many manufacturers of hand planes. -- StevieP ~ Micheal Tompkins - you were not here on earth long but left a giant mark on us. RIP Brother |

I never tried to tune a plane with a stamped frog. For $3 i’d buy it just for parts, but I wonder if they work at all. I wonder if a “normal” frog would fit? I hate to see a semi good tool go to waste. -- http://timetestedtools.net - Collecting is an investment in the past, and the future. |
