Still love my restored & modified lathe. This is one of those questions that Brad usually has an answer for but any input would be appreciated.

Edit – Found it on youtube. I’ll try this first.

(I sure do miss Radio Shack although free 2 day delivery from Amazoo is pretty cool too!)

Depends on the motor… some will only run one way due to the way the brushes are oriented, some will run either way. Most should be fine and will spin either way. The DPDT w/center off is the way to do it, but make sure it’s rated for enough current (typically in the neighborhood of 20A give or take) – the switch shown in the video is way too small.

Here is my generic MC60 wiring diagram with the fwd/rev mod highlighted:

Brad

Thanks. The specs on the one I ordered.

Baomain Toggle Switch AC 250V/10A 125V/15A DPDT 3 Position ON/OFF/ON 6 Pins

But there is also this one
Specifications: Current Rating: [email protected] AC, [email protected] 277V AC 1-1/2 HP @ 125-250V AC

Canceled and re-ordered. Only $2 more.

You are probably going to have to cancel and re-order a different one again… according to the description on that one, it’s a momentary switch, not a maintained contact one.

Cheers,
Brad

Hard to tell just what the first switch really is. The title says on-off-on but then the detailed description states that there is no center position. The detailed description states that the switch is NOT momentary contact, but then in the questions the first reply states that it actually is momentary. Then a second response to the question says that it really is not momentary. The second switch that you ordered looks like a winner.

Guess that’s a double damn! :-)

The second switch should be here today but it’s not returnable so it’ll probably sit in a drawer for the next 5 years. It does say “Momentary”. I missed that.

Well, to be honest, I thought Brad was referring to the first switch when he mentioned momentary and I looked and found the discrepancy in the listing. They I went and looked at the second switch and completely missed the momentary part.

Funny…

I chatted with Amazon on how I would know it was not returnable before I ordered it and they apologized and refunded my $ and told me to keep the switch. All is right with the universe. :-)

Ordered this one. I’ll take the risk at a 15amp rating. 3 position ON-OFF-ON. Brads was only available as an add on and I didn’t need to spend another $35. :-)

Thanks for the help guys.
