Topic tags/keywords: planer squeal tool

Bought a “slightly used” 734 on ebay, had it shipped from Arizona to my home in Indiana. Start-up after close inspection of blade installation and general condition, turned the 734 on. Sounded good except for a pulsating high-piched squeal. Seems to be motor related. Don’t think that’s normal for the planer. Anyone have an idea of what’s going on?

I have an older Dewalt 733 (very similar to your 734) that I bought used several years ago. It screams like a banshee! I have to wear ear plugs or muffs when using it. I suggest using an air hose to blow it out thoroughly then check the bearings on all the rollers, if any of them bind or do not turn smoothly replace them. I had to replace a few parts on mine not long after I got it, they’re easy to work on and parts should be readily available.

I bought the extractor shroud/hood for mine and it was WELL worth it, highly recommend that for yours if one is available. I hook up the 4” dust collector hose and it removes almost all the shavings. Even without a dust collector the shroud would direct most of the shavings to a container via a piece of hose.
