I’m just getting into hand tools and picked up this saw for $5 at a flea market. It has Eclipse 84-3998 printed on the blade and a warranted superior made in USA medallion. The blade is 14” x 4”. I haven’t been able to find anything to help identify this saw. I’m just curious was this a good find or just good sharpening paractice? Did eclipse make saws? I started sanding a little bit of rust that’s why some of it’s oretty shiny.

Not an oldie, it’s value as a saw will be entirely up to you. Can you tell how it is filed? If you can file it for whatever it is you would like it to be, it’s possible you can make it a user, if not it’s parts. Probably not a totally junk saw, it’s correct for a 14” saw to have 3 saw nutz, medallion is functional for that count, blade has what looks as a solid back, and the handle is classic Disston low cost handle, complete with wheat. The rest is how does it saw?

Cool thanks for the input! I’ll try to sharpen it up and not feel to bad if I screw it up.
