Topic tags/keywords: question

Hi all. I drew this little sleigh up today and built it as a prototype for several more for Christmas. I plan to fill it with Hershey kisses. I like the way it came out but feel it needs something. Any advice other then sanded, stained or painted? I know it still needs that. I thought maybe a dowel between the front figures or some small rope. Advice welcomed!

I do very much like the rest of the design!

I would add the dowel between the very front (ears). I would also give the runners a more curled ends too. Even the runner supports could have a more curved look.
Even the old work sled on the farm 65 years ago, had curved fronts on the runners that came higher than the runners themselves did.

Ralbuck, good advice and thanks buddy! I could see all of that and really would not involve much more work.

I think the curved up runners and dowel cover it for me, too. My brain pictures a troika with the runners curved up almost all the way to those ears, with the bits for the horses harnesses to attach to connecting everything up.

Got you Dave, thanks. I see a dowel with two eyelets for the rope for the horses. I think that much curve on the runners may be a bit much but worth looking into!

Nice looking sleigh. I agree with the rest, curl the runners, add a dowel, and reigns. Pls post follow up pics.

josefdoc, thanks! I want to get started early on my holiday projects. :-) Vicki, I think the majority wins. I see what I need to do now. I’ll project post when I make refinements!

Jeff

I think your sled sides want some decoration too: paint, router or scroll saw.
May be something related to wind and snow:

toros, great idea. My Son is quite the artist. I may see what he can do. He has done a lot of painting for me on several projects.

Here’s a sleigh I made about 20+ years ago…..My daughter-in-law saw it one Christmas, and asked if I could make one for her and my son…..Yep….!!! Since then I’ve made about 4-5 for gifts….Maybe you can get an idea or two for yours….!! A couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure….!!!

Thanks, I appreciate it a lot…..I made this one a little larger than some, because my wife has a small Santa that she puts in it, and I made a few reindeer that looks like they are pulling the sleigh….Painted it red, and trimmed it in gold for the obvious reasons…...!!!
