I have constructed a 24 X 48 coffee table with a 2 piece 2 X 2 tops that needs to hinge on the end and drop perpendicular to the floor. Since there is a ¾” overhang on all sides, I cannot figure out how to properly hinge the top. The original plans used a big, ugly strap style hinge but I would like to avoid that technique. Any suggestions from my more knowledgeable craftsman will be appreciated

Thanks for the drop leaf suggestion but this top must rotate 270 degrees from serving as a top to the coffee table to a position vertical to the floor.

Ok, I misread it, and I thought from your original post, it was perpendicular to the floor. I was actually a little confused by the 270 degree title, but now this makes sense.

The only one I know of is a 270 degree hinge, but that may be the ‘strap’ hinge you are referring to as they aren’t very pretty.

Just search for 270 degree hinge. I did, and there are too many choices to post them here. I’m sure you’ll find one or more that works for you.

I think Rockler may have them. I made my own by bending T or strap hinges, but they are strictly utilitarian, and not a thing of beauty. I was making folding tool stands where the top needed to go from flat/horizontal to hanging vertical. They work fine. I’m still using one for my miter saw, though I don’t need to fold it up any more.
