Yard sale find. Owner has no idea. I guessed a sewing tool, she said her mother did sewing

Possibly musical instrument. It has a drilled key like a tuning peg, and a thru hole from top to bottom about the 11 and 1/2” mark. It might cut cheese with a wire.

Hardwood, hand carved. Asian? Native American? Scandinavian? African?

Not sure what it’s called but a quick Bing search found pictures of a bow for a one string violin type instrument. Saw several references to different regions these were from, from India to Yugoslavia. Take your pick.

And it’s probably made from alder!

Seen strung bows for Chinese (?) violins like this being used by artists at epcot center. Mr. Snowbeast might be spot on.
