Hey guys, didn’t see a new members section of the forum, and after filling out my profile and shop page, I decided to post in the Coffee Lounge to introduce myself.

31, novice leaning towards beginner level woodworker here. Suffered some horrendous losses back in 2014 that cost me my woodshop and a lot of other nice things. But after some soul searching recently, I decided to give it another go with a small business mindset and I’m super excited to get the ball rolling. I’ve got a neat lineup of small products I want to focus on making and right now I’m basically concentrating on acquiring the tools slowly on a super low budget.

I would love to attend some local classes to round out my skill set, but the price is a bit too steep for me. Hoping to learn a few things on here while getting to know people as well and just enjoy the site in general.

I’ve got a few issues and questions for starters, like trying to figure out where the heck I’m going to get replacement blades for my late 90’s early 2000’s Delta planer, or how to fix the slight wobble in my Grizzly drill press, or even more time consuming… how to identify different types of lumber I have sitting in the shop (some of my lighter cherry looks identical to some of the darker maple), and a million other questions.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting new people on here and enjoying the site!

Good luck with your business. What types of products are you looking at producing?

Hey guys, thanks!

For the products, I like making smaller items like cutting boards, wine racks, candle holders and the such, but I’ll probably wind up making some end tables and smaller furniture. One cool project I’ve been working on is my wooden toolbox prototype. I haven’t been happy with traditional metal toolboxes, so I decided to make my own full sized wooden variation and the prototype is turning out really nice… I may do a run of these if I like the finished product. Here’s what it looks like so far:

But the more pressing project right now is finishing the lumber and inventory rack, so I can get more organized:

After that, I really need to work on my logo and website, then get to work making small products. Goal is to get everything at least operational by Christmas. Bad clams putting me in the hospital with food poisoning this week put me behind schedule! :O

Have your say...
