Topic tags/keywords: plane record

I’ve got a Record No. 07 jointer plane and the lateral adjustment lever is worn and surprise…lateral adjustment isn’t working too well (because it is not contacting the plane iron with as much friction). Does anyone know if other manufactures’ levers are compatible with Record. For instance could I swap out the lever for a Stanley lever?
Thanks, Matt

Normally, I would just swap the frog.

Thanks Wayne I thought about swapping the whole frog, but I’d have to find one. Its a lot easier to find Stanley frogs than Record (in the US). Im not sure if frogs from a Record 4,5,or might be interchangeable with the 7.

You could always replace the lateral adjustment lever with lateral adjustment taps from a small hammer.

Interchangeable frogs are 4 1/2, probably 5 1/2 ( Width variance in early Stanley frogs that I’m thinking does not apply to record), 6 and 7. Is the issue a loose lateral lever or is the tab worn that fits in the cutter?

The lever is loose, because the circular pad that pushes on the iron is worn down. OK I can probably find a Stanley 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 frog on eBay for relatively low cost. All the Record frogs for sale are from UK sellers. Thanks!

I don’t think a stanley would fit. Look for a rough record parts plane. #6 would be most likely. But, something like this

Also, check with the guys in the handplane thread…. One of them may have a frog.

are Any of the rivets loose? I ask because I’ve never seen that circular part ever wear out.

Thanks everyone..no loose rivets, the disc at the bottom of the lever is worn thinner than it should be. I think someone filed it down but who knows.
