Lowe’s announces store closures as growth remains sluggish.

The Lowe’s near me has been on the decline for several years now.

Yeah, the BORG near me has horrible service, while the LOWE’S seems to be OK. I only shop at the LOWE’S, unless there is something I can’t get there in a reasonable time frame. I hope it remains OK.

Wait. I thought Lowes and HD were what everybody calls the Borg. Lowes said their biz was up 4% but HD was up 8-10% so they’re closing stores and cutting inventory for a better return on investment.

Here in Seattle Lowes bought out all of the Eagle Hardware stores about 20 years ago. Biggest difference is that Eagle had multiple vendors for the same product line whereas Lowes has only one. Sad but probably a better business model.

Lowe’s here has an excellent location, at the juncture of two highways, and is always a bustle inside and out. They also have a lot more stuff. HD is in a declining mall location that is more convenient to me, is less busy, but they have less variety. So I go to HD for anything I can to avoid the traffic around Lowe’s.

Originally it was Big Orange Retail Giant referring to Home Depot. Now the term is used pretty much generically for any of the big box stores.

Also, they are closing their Orchard Supply Hardware line of stores (99 stores), not the Lowes branded stores – so those who like their local Lowes have no worries :)

Cheers,
Brad
