Wondering what would be best for these 8/4 floating Butternut shelves above a countertop. They’ll be loaded with plates, glasses, etc… Thinking a film finish (poly) might not be the best idea.
Maybe just a butcherblock finish (oil and wax)?
I’m also maxing out the budget on these so anything that saves me time on the finish is also a win.
Thanks for any ideas.

Poly or a derivative may be the best choice though for an area you know there will be water, dampness. Also you want something that dries very hard. Don’t ask me to tell, but experience says softer finishes and heavier plates, and dishes can literally get stuck to a softer finish if said plates don’t get moved very much.

Target has a line of finishes called EMTECH You might want to look at them.

You can use poly and apply it like an oil finish – wipe, keep wet for 10 min, wipe off. The advantage is a tougher and harder finish vs oil, that can easily be renewed whenever.
