I just signed up for Woodcrafts news letter and by doing so they claim that I will receive 10% off on my next purchase. My next purchase will be the Nova Saturn lathe that I have been eyeballing. That’s about a 200 buck savings. I wonder if they will honor their claim? I have emailed them but no response so far. Anyone taking bets?

what’s the fine print say? I’m guessing they won’t even if it doesn’t mention tools, but you should at least try.

I have to agree with Steve (but I would really love to be wrong!!!). Whenever you get a flyer from Woodcraft that offers a percentage off of any purchase there is a disclaimer that has a long, long, long list of non-qualifying items. In general, machines are verboten.

I agree-this offer is pretty much bogus but I’m going to give it a shot anyhow. There was no fine print or disclaimers at all. At the bottom of thier homepage was a “Sign up for out news letter and get 10% off on your next purchase”. Entered my email and poof off it went. I’m still going to get the lathe either way.

DDJ, Gotta agree with you about the process and lack of details. I went to the Woodcraft homepage and scrolled down to the offer you mentioned. Entered my data. Poof! Off it went. Not a single response that I had 10% waiting for me. No way to prove it. No details about any restrictions. Sucks, if you ask me. Show up at the store and demand your discount.

Note added: The response came a bit later in an email. See below.

Looks like it would be easier to list what does qualify.

Yeh, the disclaimer is pretty typical for discounts like these.

DDJ won’t get the discount on his new lathe, but to be fair to Woodcraft, he can get the discount on the big pile of lathe accessories, finishing supplies, and perhaps some pen blanks he buys to go along with his new toy.

I really like Woodcraft and I make occasional road trips over fifty miles each way to go to the nearest store. I reckon I have spent a small fortune up there. The 10% discounts were never enough entice me to go, I just make the trip when I need something like more clamps, another Woodworker II blade, router bits, etc. Only place near by to purchase a lot of woodworking supplies other than the BORG.

Woodcraft today is not the same store it was years ago. Their 10% off sales lot more restrictive today. Better to wait for manufacturers discounts or rebates and buy in-store to save on shipping & sales tax. You still pay sales tax on in-store purchase minus sales tax on both item & shipping.

I like Woodcraft. The folks at my local store are very friendly and helpful and I prefer to buy locally as opposed to ordering things online. When I go to make a large purchase I find the manager and tell him I want this tool, but I am only willing to pay a certain amount (keep it reasonable) they often agree and meet my request.

I have bought lots of stuff at Woodcraft using similar coupons they put out a couple of times per year. The discounts are good for turning tools, hand saws, planes, all of their layout tools etc. Might not get you the discount on power tools (although they did let me use it on my Rikon 1×30 belt sander) but it can still be a significant savings if you’re in the market for other things.

But from what I understand the discounts are only redeemable in person not on-line right? My nearest Woodcraft store is over 4 hrs away. But still going to get the lathe.
