Topic tags/keywords: alumilite duck call stabilized wood pressure pot

Is it necessary to stabilize wood prior to using alumilite clear with a pressure pot? Or is stabilization only necessary if the wood is especially soft. I was thinking about trying to use live edge walnut and using alumilite to square it off to turn a duck call / bottle stoppers / etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use Alumilite to fill cracks in turnings. It works well for me. You do need to make sure the wood is VERY dry as Alumilite will react with water and foam up.

Been looking at one of those. Hoping they will put it on sale one of these days.

No. If the wood is not punky or has cracks, no need to stabilize. I even turn spalted wood without stabilizing if it isn’t really soft.
