Ishitani is one of my favorite woodworkers on Youtube (or anywhere, really) – he’s just an incredible craftsman and his designs are amazing.

I just came across this marking tool he’s using on his latest video –

It’s probably homemade but perhaps not.

Has anyone seen a gauge like this anywhere? I’m interested in one. I’ll make one if I have to of course (need to find an appropriate articulating arm), but wanted to see if it jumped out to anyone.

Yep dial indicator arm. If you watch much of his work, you’ll notice he frequently uses a mag base as a stop block on his iron tops. When I saw his pencil holder, I realized that he turned a base for the arm that he took off of the mag bases.

Thank you to both of you – exactly right. Looks like I’m getting a dial indicator base (plus a magnetic stop block!). Very clever.

Have your say...
