Does anyone have a good (cheap) source for ebony? I need it for Greene & Greene furniture, not pen blanks or other small stuff.

The words cheap and ebony are generally not used in the same sentence

Don’t dismiss pen blanks so quickly since they are a nice size to get many G&G pieces from and are the ebony sizes that most often can be found “on sale”.

Larger blanks cost more on a price per pound comparison and rarely are seen on sale.
You can also substitute other woods and for the ultimate in low-budget, you can use maple dyed with India Ink or other black colorant (nobody probably will ever notice).

Found some turning blanks on Etsy that were a good price so add that to the list.

Think about persimmon. Sometimes called American ebony or white ebony. It is in the ebony family. If you ebonize it (dye it black), it should work fine.

Look here. 1/4” x 1/4” x 18” long for $6.80 If you need other dimensions I’d contact him by phone.
