Topic tags/keywords: question

I have a 2 1/2 car garage with a partial attic over garage…7 foot standing area where pull down stairs access attic.
This attic has a floor and inadequate insulation. I am wondering is it worth the effort to empty the attic, rip put the flooring and significantly increase the insulation….it is 100+ up here in the summer

I know a split ac is the right solution but it is a bit pricey.

Any thoughts on how to soundproof the doors

replace the doors with solid exterior doors. they are extremely heavy
and need extra hinges with longer screws into the frame.
if you don’t think it is unsightly, you could screw 1/2” or 3/4” MDF to the doors.
as for insulation in the attic, I have never seen insulation over a garage
so I don’t know if it is a “code” thing or not. call an insulation company
in your area for clarification on that.
as for cooling, you can run a flex duct yourself from the main plenum box
(or a “Tee” fitting to the closed duct) to the garage and fabricate an airtight
slide gate to only cool the area while you are in it – close it when you are not using the space.
