I am a beginning wood worker with a lot of why can’t I figure this out.
Just purchased a new miter saw and after setting it up and making my first cut, wood shows square while holding on one side and when I check the other side it isn’t showing square. this happens on the miter saw and the table saw. Need help.

Set them up again or buy a true square.

Are you sure the sides of the board are parallel? If it’s twisted or warped, that can also be a problem.

I will check to see if the sides are parallel. Thanks.

While your at it, check to make sure your square is square also.

Yep, you would be surprised how many big box stores sell squares and levels that are not either square nor level.

Sounds to me like the board needs to be jointed and cut straight lengthwise. Or you see better with one eye?

I will be jointing said board with a homemade jig, then sawing it again to check for squareness. Just won’t happen tonight. 4:00 a.m. comes early.

Yep, if you’re going to invest in reference tools, spend good money.
