Hi, is it possible to turn while sitting. I have a bad foot that is getting worse and surgery is a possibility. Even after recovery I will not be able to sand long period. If I could sit while turning would be helpful. Thanks

do a search online for Robust and/or Oneway lathes for sitting when turning.

Quite doable.

It is possible. A local ww club makes lathe stands that tilt forward and allow people in wheelchairs to turn.

Talk to LJ Arlin Eastman. He trains disabled veterans to do exactly what you are asking. Great guy.

I do just enough turning to make tool handles and spindles for other projects, but I use a high shop stool, my back side just barely on the seat, one foot on the stool’s rail and the other foot on the floor. Seems to work for me…

Hi, thanks for your suggestions, I’ll see what I can find. Nothing on utube except on turner says he sits a lot but nothing showing people doing it. I don’t need a special just a safe way to turn small projects from a sitting position. Knowing me if I don’t turn for weeks I may lose interest. If I do simple things Like honey dippers or shaping the outside of bowls that should keep me going till I can stand thanks Mike
