First, a little history:

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for Americans to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.

Today I stumbled upon the story of Retired Army Sgt. Andrew Smith and thought he would be of particular interest to the good folks here at LumberJocks. Click on the image below to learn more about this American Patriot and how he expresses himself through his passion for woodworking.

Nice story, rather than give up he gets up and makes the best with what he has.

-- Live to tell the stories, they sound better that way.

Good for him. Well done.
