Any ideas why I cannot raise the planer higher than around 4’’? i have not used it in about 8 months and I just ran some lumber to 3/4’’ thickness. When I crank it up it gets tighter from about 3.5’’ and will stop just proud of 4’’.

You’ve got some junk, chips, etc. blocking your elevation mechanism. Check the internals. Don’t force anything until you’ve checked.

I looked inside and took off the blade shroud and saw nothing that could be causing the problem. I will check the four threaded posts on the corners tomorrow and see if one or more has junk in the threads.
If that fails I will have to drag out the jointer for pieces over 4 inches tall for quick joinery.
