I have been finding the best deals on craigslist
If you search a lot you can find good deals
Now I am in the northwest and we do have some wood out our way

But

I’m the last week I have seen stuff going very cheap

Check out this ad

I found this yesterday for my new bandsaw

Or this one

I wish the washington Dc area had deals like that. Ive been specifically searching for 8” jointers here for the past 6 months. They are all over priced. as a matter of fact there are two DJ-20s on the DC craigslist page at this time and they are both going for around $1400. WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. in fact they are so overpriced, its not even worth trying to haggle with the sellers. I dont think they realize that you can pick up a new Powermatic for just a few hundred more.

Not in Dallas either.
Very few woodworking tools show up here and when they do they seem to want to charge extra for the rust.

We have a LOT of woodworking stuff here in the Portland/Seattle area which keeps prices low. For other stuff prices are ridiculously high.

Ya its a 50/50 thing here in Vegas. Some of it is priced like its new, some good deals.
I have done all my table saw upgrades off craigslist.
I picked up the older style woodpecker router lift a few years ago for a $100.
And got a biesemeyer fence for $150 and a saw stop cast iron wing for $20. Both last year.
Managed to turn a POS saw into a pretty nice tool for a good price.

You find a few deals but a lot of kooks. Legit deals are gone in minutes. But kooks will drag it out, 20 emails later and they still can’t find time to meet. Or they won’t be home. Or the picture was taken 5 years ago and it’s been sitting outside since. Or you get there and he sold it. Or they cat and mouse with the address. CL here is a full time job for deal hunting.

Good deals can be had on CL… but not any better or worse than what you can find at garage sales, estate and other local auctions, social networking (friends and relatives), your local electrical co-op buy-n-sale pages, etc…

I can guarantee that whatever good deals you think you got, there are lots of others who have got better ones :)
(as well as plenty of others who have got worse)

Cheers,
Brad
