Hello,
Yesterday being 80* we decided to hit the local flea market. I picked up the aforementioned plane for $5 and am trying to make sure it is all original. I have learned a lot about Stanley bench planes over the past few years but this is the first Bedrock I’ve come across. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is you have to take the whole plane into account and not just go by the main casting.

The body casting is 2 1/16” x 9 1/4” (9 1/4” ?)
It says No. 603 on the toe with Bedrock cast in back of the knob. Between the frog and the tote it has Made in USA cast into it. No other marks on the base.
It has the high knob. And from the pictures, of which I see no difference, I don’t know what style of knob mount it is.
The width of the iron is 1 3/4” and has the notched Stanley TM stamped on it.
The lever cap is a straight slot and has the notched Stanley logo on it. ( I don’t spot any trace of orange )
Stanley is stamped on the rudder style adjustment lever with no dates.
The adjustment wheel is brass and is 1 1/4” in diameter.
I think all this points to a type 9? The discrepancy is the length, VTW says it is 8 inches
The guides I used were the Antique-used-tools & Virginia tool works.

If a specific picture is needed I have 21. Thanks for any comments.

Maybe type 5. Does it have two patent dates behind frog?

Well, that’s sure an attractive offer Grant …..uh hem….not that it’s worth much, but I think it will make a pretty good trader.

That is awesome. I paid $5 for my 603 this weekend as well. I have not tried to date mine yet. Awesome deal!
