I am building some 6” blast gates out of MDF because I have it. I was thinking of just giving them a good coating of past wax to seal them a but and keep them moving well. My other thoughts are shellac or BLO. Any opinions on what would work out the best?

I would think that the paste wax might need to be refreshed from time to time so I would put a light coat of water based poly on them first. Poly is fairly slick to begin with and will reduce the chances of humidity causing the MDF to expand a bit. A light coat of wax after the poly will make them slide even better. Just size the slot they’ll ride in after applying the poly.

use what ya got. I would use lacquer. Just because it goes on fast, and dries quick and can whip out 4/5 coats quick then wax and go on.
