A lot of fun to turn and unusual, at least for me!

This turned out well. I watched your video and i have one suggestion. Rather than turn a tennon on the bottom ,I always turn a dovetail mortise. It is lots strong for work that size and your bottom is finished. Is that a vicmarc chuck you are using?

Thanks Klondike, for watching and commenting, much appreciated.

The chuck is a Super Nova 2. I’ve found they are excellent in my years as a turner.

I tend to only use dovetail mortises on thin materials like if I’m making a platter. I also feel like a piece is un-finished if any evidence of how it was held is left. Sometimes it just can’t be helped, but I prefer to remove mortises just like I remove tenons.

Thanks again!

Really enjoyed your video and also subscribed to your channel. I get a lot of maple from work that measures 4” wide by 1 1/2” thick in various lengths and thought small square bowls would be fun to try. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you so much! That’s the beauty of a piece like this. You can make it any size and it will still look good. Having free maple at your disposal makes me envious!
