Is there a good place to go for hardwoods in North Carolina? Asking for a friend. He’s a new woodworker and mostly doing small projects. He actually lives a bit north of Charlotte in the Statesville/Hickory area. So far he’s only found lumber yards that lean toward construction supply.

I’m lucky to have a place near me in Rochester called Pittsford Lumber. It’s a dream store for a woodworker. They have everything from pen turning blanks to 10ft live edge slabs, from Ash to Zebrawood. I just assumed stores like that existed near every city, but I guess not.

West Penn is worth the drive for you, best in the state!

Thanks guys, those look more like it! My buddy will be thrilled. I might even have West Penn ship some material up north if ever I can’t find it at my local place.

Wall Lumber up in Mayodan has a good rep. I’ve mail ordered from them before and had excellent service.

That’s ok splintergroup, looks like about 90 minutes from where my friend lives. I’m going to direct him to this thread so he can see all the options.

If Asheville area isn’t too far for him… here’s a great place in Weaverville (just north of Asheville).

I second the recommendation for Wall Lumber in Mayodan. I’m in the Greensboro area and they have always had the best prices when I have shopped around.
