Topic tags/keywords: question tip

Does anyone have any suggestions for a spring-loaded reel to use with a dust collector hose? I want something that I can mount to the ceiling, and attach the hose to. Just pull it down when I need it, then turn loose and it retracts up.

So something similar to an air hose reel—but much bigger?

I noticed Rockler is selling a manual reel.

I found a video on-line where some guy is making a manual dust collection hose reel.

Not spring loaded but part way to what you want.

Thanks but not really what I am looking for. Basically something like what you would use for keeping id’s or keys on your belt, just bigger to accommodate hanging a vacuum hose from it.

Speedaire, Hubbell, Endo, (and others) make cable retractors called tool balance for hand tools. Commonly used in production environment to keep tools out of way till needed at work station. They are sold based on amount of load lifted. Beware, tool retractor can cost $500+ depending on weight requirement.

There are also companies like Reelcraft who make all kinds of retracting devices. Some pull cables attached to tools (tool balancer), some retract & store microphones/cables on sound stage, others roll up vacuum hoses attached to cars during emissions testing. Check out their site.

Best Luck.
