Is there a way to do this? It looks like the ring clip could be removed.

Reason: I want to be able to remove a bit as soon as it is loosened not have to run the collet out til it snaps free.

Driving me nuts swapping bits in router table I need to keep the height unchanged.

The snap ring can probably be removed (sounds like a Porter Cable), but then you will have to deal with the occasional stuck bit, which is even more of a hassle.

That is there for a reason, they are called self releasing collets. Defeat that and you will have the problem mentioned above…stuck bits.

Yep, I had to buy a replacement nut for my Elu router when the ring in the original quit doing its job. Trying to remove a seriously stuck bit from a router is no fun. Nothing much to grab onto and what there is tends to be very sharp. The ring is there for a very good reason.
