Topic tags/keywords: grizzly jointer used tools valuation price

I am looking to buy my first jointer. I’m wired for 120v and do not have the space for and 8” jointer.

I have been looking at a Grizzly 60813 – but shipped is about $700. Not sure I want to drop that much for my first (and it is out of stock).

I’m going to be looking at a G1182, which I believe is a 1987 model based on the serial number. The cover of the manual indicates the G1182 is from “Grizzly Imports.”

The asking price is $250. And from the pictures it looks to be in very good condition (no rust, etc.). The gentleman looks to be a collector of sorts and describes the machine as being “used little.”

My research indicates that this machine has been pretty well received. But I don’t know much about the variation of models between 80’s and 90’s into 2000’s. i know this topic has been kicked around a bit but if anyone has pointers on the history of this machine and what I should look for before buying I would appreciate it. Not sure if $250 is a bit too high also. Thank you in advance.

For 250$ I’d be taking pics of it cleaned up in my shop right now. Then I’d show the receipt for new bearings and helical head I bought with the money I saved.

Want to make sure I understand. So $250 is a good deal?

If it’s in good shape its a good price. Not sure where you are located but jointer availability and price vary dramatically by region. I’m in SoCal, and there are always many jointers available, but they are usually way over priced.

About a year ago I picked up an Enlon 3104 which I believe is a clone of the Grizzly G1182. I paid $250 for mine, and it has served me well. You can find several posts on the G1182, people seem very happy with it

Good luck, and welcome aboard

Odds are good if it has the same model number, it’s very similar to later models too. Mine’s a 2001 G1182HW and its been great within in it’s capacity limits.
