I picked up a used Delta 22-560 planer a couple of years ago for $75 and it’s worked pretty well, especially once I replaced the blades and one of the blade hold downs (which had bent as a result of chips getting packed under the blade). Recently, the height adjustment has become difficult to operate. It seems to bind up really bad. I sprayed some penetrating oil on the vertical threaded shafts, which seems to have helped. Not sure if it is something else. Anyone else have this problem?

Benchtop planers have a chain-drive system
in the bottom. It may benefit from some grease
in the sprockets. The plastic covers on the sides
can be removed as well and the posts lubricasted
with paste wax.

Well hot dang! The underside was just packed full of wood chips. No wonder I was having so much trouble!
Thanks Loren!

Yeah, my only issue in the past has been chips accumulating. Glad you figured it out.

Side note: Keep the planer bed lubricated with a dry lube like Bostik Glide Cote. I use it on my planer bed, screw posts (and plunge routers too!). It makes all the difference.

Thanks PintoDeluxe! Where do you get that dry lube? HD or Lowes?

Nice quote BTW! First concert was Moving Pictures tour in 1981 in ATL!

Have your say...
