Hey folks, I’m about a year into this wood working hobby and after successfully making a coat rack and a large 6’ Nelson-style bench for the dining room, I’d like to move onto taking a stab at chairs, specifically midcentury pieces loosely similar to general Danish style (tapered legs, rounded edges, sweeping lines). Can anyone recommend some good material to help a newb ramp up?

When I started on this awesome hobby I took a community college class to make sure I was safe on table saws and jointers, etc, then picked up the following books that really proved useful:
Understanding Wood – Bruce Hoadley
Understanding Wood Finishing – Bob Flexner
Working Wood 1 & 2 – Paul Sellers

And yeah, I’m aware that moving from a slat bench w/ box joints to a chair, any chair really, is kind of a big jump. Will likely knock out other projects before I actually build a chair but just want some good resources so I’m more in the know when I do start.

Not sure about books but there is a YouTuber named Chris Salome that makes allot of mid-century modern style furniture. I think he also has a Patreon page where he offers plans to the stuff he builds in his vids. Might be worth checking out.
