Hey Lumberjocks, Just joined the forum. Have visited here, often. Woodworking since I was a kid (my dad was a carpenter). Live in the Indianapolis area. Guitarist is main hobby, but I like to putter in the workshop when I don’t have any gigs and I am bored with practice. Just got a couple of lathes, so looking for info on that. Trying to keep all my appendages for obvious reasons. Hope to see you around. Thanks! -- Too many projects, not enough time... |

Welcome to Lumberjocks. Lots of great information here and lots of great posts to read. I’m sure the many turners here will help you along the way. My guess would be that their first question will be: What kind of lathes do you have? Size matters when discussing what types of projects you can turn. -- Sawdust Maker |

Thanks, LittleShaver. I got a Harbor Freight 10×18 lathe and then got a nice deal on two Craftsman lathes, the old tubular way type. All work well, all 1/2 hp lathes. Turned a handle for one of my chisels for my first project, using the HB lathe. Working on a carver’s mallet on one of the Craftsman lathes, but it is way too cold in the shop. Have to stop when the fingers become numb. LOL! -- Too many projects, not enough time... |

Nothing wrong with making boxes. There are infinite possibilities. Search through the Projects tab here and you’ll see what I mean. Perhaps you could combine making boxes with music. Check out CBGitty or cigarbox.com for info on cigar box instruments. Nothing says it must be a cigar box. -- Sawdust Maker |
