I put the camera on 20 x but my gouges still cut as slow as always, no matter how sharp they are?

Recommended angles are for the recommender. Up or down a degree can be crucial. Were it otherwise, free handing touch ups and such wouldn’t be so hit and miss.

A sharp gouge sure makes a difference . I teach at the high school and have 5 new kids each hour for about 8 weeks and when I get one started with a bowl gouge and it does not perform well, they get discouraged. I put it in the Jamieson fixture and touch up the fingernail grind and they are very happy and take to cutting off too much sometimes because they are having so much fun!! If I get them started at the first part of the hour, they can have a bowl done by the end of the period except for removing the spigot.

cheers, Jim
