I’m in the market for an 8” jointer, I want one with a helical cutter head and carbide cutters. I have been looking at Grizzly and Powermatic are there any others that I should be looking at?

I think Laguna makes an 8” model with a helical head.

Bondo, I have a G0490X and have been very happy with it. I think the beds are a bit longer than some and the cutters lasted a long time, maybe 6-7 years, before I had to rotate them. FWIW

Good luck with a go 490x from Grizzly. I’ve been waiting since may for one an finally told them to forget it. Don’t know why but know one seems to know when they will have them or they just guess. I’ve been told 4 different times that they would be in and they weren’t. I’d look at maybe a shop fox which is the same just a little more expensive. You might find one of those.

Baleigh, Steelex, General, Oliver and Powermatic are all companies to consider in addition to the Grizzly.

Get the shelix. Not the ripoff segmented non-helical.

I’ve had the 8” PM with helical head for about 9 months. Works well, I’m very pleased with the cut quality. needed very little setup out of the box.

you might also want to consider a European machine like a minimax, etc. in addition to those already pointed out.

I’m another with a Grizzly 8”, long bed spiral and having it makes me happy I lost out on a cheaper PM version with knife blades. I believe I have a review of it in the review section, but that was when it was new. Now I’m even happier.
