I am trying to turn this redwood slab into a rustic table top. I need advice on how to stabilize/fill the holes you see in the photos. In the past, I’ve used West System epoxy to fill similar holes on other projects. This is not really the right solution. It’s very messy, and with softwood, the wood seems to soak up the epoxy like a sponge. I could really use any suggestions others might have on how to handle this situation.

-- I have some idea what I'm doing.

Durham’s water putty can be mixed with
powdered water dyes for color. The dye
will cost you more than the putty.
