Topic tags/keywords: wood wall antique hand tools

This project is dedicated to grandpa Floyd! When I was a little kid, I would watch Floyd as he tooled around in his garage woodshop. Floyd was an absolute wood master. He had skills far beyond anyone I know. He was known for building dressers that weighed hundreds of pounds and probably cost a few thousand in raw materials. Floyd was patient and persistent. Over the years, woodworking has taught me patience (although I have a LONG way to go with this discipline).

The tools on this wall are between 50-100+ years old. Many of them were owned and used by Floyd -the square in the top right still has his name written on it. The huge two-man saw on top was owned by my wife’s grandpa (he’s 101 years old and still as spry as ever

). Some of the tools we picked up at family outings to Antique Trove, Denios, and Habitat for Humanity. I’ve been collecting these tools for years and thinking of how to display them. When all is said and done, I spent $20.00 on the wood, almost nothing on the tools, and around 30 hours in the shop (most of that was cleaning up the old tools). Even though it was over a hundred degrees most days I worked this project, it was fun. I listened to classic rock and spaced out thinking about where the tools might have been used in their life.

That looks great.
I’m going to be doing something like that in my garage and it’s helping me visualize how I want to do it.

Looks fantastic! I’m planning on doing that to my fireplace later this year.

The wood is from a place next to the dump that takes all types of wood for free. These are old fence boards; they look to be more than 30 years old.
