I am building a frame for an 8×8 art tile that is about 3/8 thick… so it’s heavy (Motawi Tile Works, some may know it).

What kind of adhesive would be suitable for this? Also, what would you recommend for a backer board – plywood? hardboard?

I’m not sure on the backer board but Loctite should take care of the adhesion part of it.

J, when I make these, I make the frame thick enough so the tile can sit in a rabbet and have a couple stops on the back to hold the tile in place. I have the rabbet sized so that only about 1/16” of the tile is covered on each edge. Also, the tiles that I have used aren’t perfectly square or flat. Please post pix when complete.

I use silicone for adhesive, I back them w/ plywood.

Thanks all, good tips.

A&C – excellent suggestion on the rabbet for support, I will incorporate that into my design.
