Yes another HF DC thread.

I originally built a Thien separator when I first got my HF dc and it was working ok just not a lot of suck. I knew when I bought it that I would need to upgrade the bag to a filter but was short on cash. Once I was able to, I bought the new Wynn 222 series 35BA222NANO. Before I installed it I had used my original setup with the Thein baffle on top of a 35g drum and I would get fine shavings in the clear bag. I would estimate 30% in clear bag and 70% in the drum. I would see the occasional tornado like action in the clear bag. Not very strong but visible.

I installed the filter and this tornado picked up a bit but I had the same amount of debris in the clear bag (a new bag was installed when I put the filter on). I did find two small leaks where the bag connects that were not visible when I took the system apart to do the SDD install).

I decided to get the SDD and WOW. I left the clear bag with a few big hand fulls of fine dust and turned it on. The tornado like action was significantly increased, bag instantly expanded tighter than before, and the dust that was left in the bad disappeared (assuming into the filter). Now my suck is much improved and I am getting much more collecting in the drum than before. There is nothing in the clear bag and I do not see anything going in that area.

Curious if others have seen the same increase and observations as I have. I was going to order the Rikon impeller but I see no need right now.

I built this same setup. But started with HF as it was, then added wynn filter, and then SDD. Sure the Wynn was better for my health but I found the only major improvement was the SDD. After about 2 months of this the assembly took way too much room. So I mounted SDD and drum in the corner of garage and put the rest of the assembly in the attic with a remote. It was the best thing I could have done It can barely be heard and the space I save is amazing.

Have your say...
