Cruising through the YouTube, I ran across some wooden steam engines that people have built and they run off of compressed air. I was FASCINATED by them. I would love to build one and was wondering if anyone knows of any place to get plans or books with various plans etc.

I have built Matthias”s engine and was looking for something a little more detailed, such as this for example:

Since there isn’t anything you guys can’t do on LJ, you have inspired me to try something completely different….for me anyway!

Thank you all in advance.

Thanks Jim, but I was looking for something that is completely made out of wood.

Personally it doesn’t interest me but I might have to watch this site as my husband would love to make something like that too.

hi Jim

I like this thread very much i have a question is there any reason why the diagrams you have put up here can’t be done in hardwood instead of steel as all i can see is that all you are changing is the material of construction

Seems like the difference between the engine you linked to and Matthias's engine is the size of the flywheels, the container for the piston and valve, and that the one you want to build has the eccentric portion inbound of the flywheels.

Both are basically the same bidirectional piston engine. So, yeah, plans would be great and all, but you’ve already built something that implements the basic concept, I’d like to see what your individual take on the design is!

(And can we see pictures of the one you’ve already built? These things are cool!)

I think the links I posted show an engine that is a little more refined. I can’t beleive that no-one on here has built one of these. I’d like to give it a shot but I am not sure I have the technical know-how to re-design one. I DO have the ability to buy the plan from some one who has that ability and then EXPAND on the plans.
