What are your thoughts on this:

Any idea about quality?
Anybody heard of this brand?

This won’t be that useful, but I have heard of the brand. I examined a 15” Northwood planer that was nearby for a friend. In the case of the planer, it was of typical Chiwanese manufacturer, and looked all the world like a Grizzly/Jet or any of the others. My friend did some digging and found they were just another tool importer that eventually had to give it up. I seem to recall they were a Kentucky based operation, but this was 7-8 years ago and I may not have that right. As for that saw, I sure as hell wouldn’t pay that much, you can (if you’re patient) get a Delta or other better known brand for that much (just my opinion).

Are you sure it wasn’t a Northfield? which is the Cadillac of woodworking machinery.

I’m with Fred… that is just a generic no-name asian import that is probably similar to a half dozen other imported machines, and certainly not worth anywhere near the asking price. Good luck trying to find any info, manual or parts for it! Wait it out for a nice known brand to show up – it shouldn’t be too long of a wait :)

PS: I guess a lot of other people think it’s overpriced as well… ad says it’s been out there for about a month.

I’m not familiar with that brand, but am familiar with the saw. It’s one of many manufactured by Mao Shan in Taiwan through the 80’s and early 90’s. Other brand names of the same saw are PM, Jet, Grizzly, Ohio Forge, AFF, Bridgewood, Omega, Union, Mao Shan, Allied, and likely many others. They varied in wing style, fence, blade guards, and base, but the main guts and motors were nearly identical. Basically a copy of the American made Delta of the time.

$225 is a tad steep IMO for one with that fence, but are otherwise a very serviceable saw. I’d offer closer to $150-$175. With a decent blade and proper setup, it should be fine if it’s functioning properly.
