Topic tags/keywords: estate sale hand tools

Went to one of the best estate sale I’ve ever been to this morning. All high end tools and they were actually reasonably priced. I was there when it opened and the tables were cleared in about 15 minutes. Here is what I was able to snag.

Lie Neilsen 60 1/2 $80.00
Bridge City Saddle Square $5.00
Starrett 6” Combo Square $5.00
Veritas Bar Gauge Heads $1.00

I was hoping to get some of the other planes. I saw someone that grabbed a LN Low Angle Jack for $150 and a LN Skewed Block Plane for $80. Lots of Sorby turning tools and Bridge City tools also. Wish I would have gotten then an hour early instead of 30 minutes early… It might have been a more impressive haul.

Awesome score Stew! I have wanted one of those BC saddle squares for a while but just can’t find one anywhere near what I can justify paying for it.

Well if I decide to sell it I’ll let you know Kenny. I have never needed a saddle square, I just bought it because it was cheap and I thought it was cool. Maybe now that I have one I’ll find a use for it but if not I’ll sell it to you for what I paid…

Nice haul. I’ve never seen new-ish stuff like that at estate sales near me.

Ken – my dad is a Hokie, sorry about the loss last night.

Yeah, we finally get back to the tournament and go out in the first round. It’s progress at least! Hokie-Hi!

It was really “new-ish”! The Sorby tools looked like they had never been sharpened. The blade on the block plane that I got looked like it still had the factory grind on it. The back of the blade was never polished either. I should post some of the preview pics for the estate sale, there was a lot of nice stuff there. There was also a Mini Max Si10E Cabinet Saw w/ a Vega Fence and Overarm Blade Guard for $2300. I have no idea if that’s a good deal or not. It was more saw than I have room for so I didn’t really look that hard at it.

I’m up the road from you in DFW and look for these things all the time. When I saw this one I thought – woo hoo! Then I saw where it was and said – ah, hell that ain’t gonna happen for me.

That’s the one and Woo-Hoo is right! Luckily, this was 10 minutes from my office…
