I know this is a long shot, but LJ has never failed before so I thought I’d give it a go…

Next month we’re off to Vienna for a few days – mainly to go to the Opera.

I’d be interested if anyone can give me any pointers to…

1) Any good tool shops in the city. Specifically I’m looking for decent quality router bits, rather than machines or wood.
2) Any museums, exhibitions etc etc that have a significant and worthwhile furniture/woodstuff section.

I googled Vienna and found a fair bit of information, check out the 3D street view on Google Earth!

I got nothing … but incredibly fond memories of a New Year’s Eve spent there, in “St. Stephensplatz” square.

Have a great trip.

Beautiful city in a beautiful country.

I also really liked Salzburg, if you have the chance.

I don´t know much about Wien except its a beautyfull city
and in the old days it was one of the three city´s that dictated fashion and development in
how things shuold look like in buildings , things/hardware used daily
the two other city´s was Prag and Berlin
not Paris ,Madrid and Rome as people think now

Salzburg is a wonderfull city as Neil say :-)

take care

The Vienna State Opera House (Wiener Staatsoper) is definitely worth visiting—more than once. I was there 3xs on a visit about 10 years ago. My 1st opera (Electra) ticket cost about $150US. I went a few days later and paid about $170 for a “better suite”—actually it was a box seat but it had 8-10 seats and I couldn’t see the whole stage. I later met a student from Cornell who was studying for a semester and she mentioned that that she always got “standing room” tickets at about $2.85 !!
I checked it out and sure enough, if you sit across the street at a cafe and watch the lineup, you can line up around 5:30 for a 7:30 show and only pay About $3.00 for a standing room ticket- 10 years ago—now I think it is still less than $10. As a plus, they were “standing room” just behind the $$$$ expensive seats and you could sit on a ledge—a great spot.

Later I found out that you could pay about $75 a year and do not have to line up on the day of the event for standing room.

Summary: Get “standing room seats and go every night!”

RE Other Places
I think a Lumberjock would appreciate Hundertwasser’s Museum (interesting architect and painter—visit his site first at: )

Have a great visit
