General International drum sander 15-250M1 problem

I am hoping someone else has encountered this problem with the subject sander. When feeding lumber, the feed mat hesitates for a split second sporadically, causing a divot in the surface of the wood. Occasionally, feed will be smooth for several minutes, then the problem starts up again. Happens with even very light passes, does not seem to be associated with the load on the machine. I love this sander, save for this problem. Maybe problem with the feed motor or the gear reduction box? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have a General International. Mine is a Canwood which is exactly the same machine with a different paint job but I can’t say I have had the problem. What came to mind right away however was feed belt tension. Have you checked that?
It would seem to me that if the feed belt was loose or worn it might intermittently slip on the rollers causing a problem like the one you are experiencing.
Just a thougt.

So I was having the same problem. Intermittent stopping of feed belt. First thing I did was remove the DC drive motor. I then tested it and had the same problem. It would start and stop randomly. I figured that it had to have something to do with the speed controller/DC transformer. I inspected the board (located behind main switch under black cover) and wiggled a few of the components. Tested again and it was totally dead.
This time I opened the speed controller and removed the circuit board and inspected the solder joints. I found 5 that looked suspect. (If you don’t know what a bad one looks like, search google for “broken solder joint”.) I heated up my soldering iron, remelted the solder, put everything back together and it works like a charm.

I had the same problem and tested motor, etc. After calling General, they are now sending a new circuit board. Apparently, that’s a known issue with them.

The solder joints on mine looked fine but I’m going to also get mine repaired to have a backup.
