For the past couple years I’ve been keeping my eye open for a large jointer as my 8” just isn’t enough as I have a sawmill now and have my own slabs to work with. I had a line on a 24” and that fell through last year so mid December I found a 16” Buss jointer in really nice condition. Mainly just needs new paint and I want to change to a helical head. Then, talking to a friend of mine in PA, he tells me he found a 20” in good condition 15 minutes from him. I said sure, if the price is right and he went to check it out. Well, today, a freight truck arrived and this is what I now have on the back of one of my trailers… |

Woody, congratulations on the aircraft carrier. :D -- Art |

You know? Aside from making everything as original as possible, I might just paint carrier markings on the top. That would be the icing on the cake :) |

Wow Woody – that is one huge jointer. Your Misses can iron on it! (Is that chauvinistic?). Nice find Woody – tell me, is that a 3 phase motor, and if so, how much did it cost to get 3 phase, or the equivalent in inverters? I have always wanted larger planers and jointers, but anythi8ng beyond 8” is 3 phase, and I am in my garage. Space is a premium. Anyway – congrats! Great find. I guess that means I need to raise my prices, haha.
I’m lucky in that my shop already had 3 phase in it. This is the first machinery I have purchased that’s 3 phase but if other good deals come up, I’m sure I’ll continue. |

Jobewan, AZWoody is spoiled. His shop is 4 times the size of my 20×20 shop and his lumber storage is even bigger, and it’s filled. Not to mention the massive tree trunks sitting around waiting to get thrown through the mill. Oh, I’m not jealous or anything <sarcasm>. At least he gives me crazy good prices. -- Dave - http://kelleycrafts.com/ - pen blanks - knife scales - turning tools |

I mean it’s not not chauvinistic. It’s probably right out of the brochure though, I mean who doesn’t equate a huge jointer with the little lady of the house ironing on it. Cool jointer Woody. My buddy is getting a 16” Oliver restored right now. I can’t wait to use it :). -- There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |

Holy Cow that a big beast. I’m looking forward to seeing your photos after you restore it. That’s an amazing tool. |

I don’t know if most of you realize it but there’s two in these photos. One 20” and one 16”. Hence “spoiled” -- Dave - http://kelleycrafts.com/ - pen blanks - knife scales - turning tools |

Some luck and a lot of waiting and searching. I spent the better part of a year checking ebay, craigslist and other machinery auctions. Where I live there is nothing in the way of old woodworking machines. I’m definitely unlucky in that regards :( |
