Topic tags/keywords: question maple finishing

I found some good advice for finishing curly maple. I sanded to 220, stained with alcohol plus Transtint Vintage Maple, let dry and the sand with 220. I did this a couple of times and then used oil based poly. It came out very well…

I have some Birdseye Maple and wondering about it. Several places suggested a similar procedure and I could do that but wondered if there is something better.

I tried BLO and Tung oil on the Curley Maple and it was OK but the stain I described popped the grain more.

IMO tung oil on birdseye is beautiful. It makes the “eyes” look 3D
