Back in early February 2010, Powermatic put their PM 1200 air cleaner on sale. I went to a local retailer and purchased one. After 3 weeks I was told it would not be shipped until April 20, 2010. Now they say it won’t ship until June 2010.

Here’s a link to it.

Am I the only one to have this problem? The retailer told me that there are several Jet and Powermatic items that are out of stock. I talked to a local rep, and was told that the sale far exceeded their estimate, and have a huge backlog. I asked if they are going out of business, and was assured that they are not.

I’m kinda sore, so this is a bit of a rant. I’m wondering if anyone else has the same beef.

We have had a lot of trouble getting a particular Jet table saw in. We had one rather unhappy customer and lost some other sales. Evidently what you are being told is right. Hang in there, I know it’s a pain. I’m sure they will get it sraightened out.

When you think about it, it stands to reason. Because of the bad economy, all the manufacturers cut back on production because things weren’t selling. They have specials to draw more business, and don’t have a clue what to expect from buyers. So this is what happens. It’s easier to anticipate what you need to produce in a booming economy.

You aren’t alone. I’m having the same issue with the AFS1000 at my local store. Just so happens, I was in the store the other day and the director of sales or VP of sales from Jet was there. I happen to express my displeasure at the length of the back order and he explained that all the dealers had cut back in their demand and then, out of the blue, in December/January demand shot back up (didn’t help that they’ve had 2-3 sales since then too). With that increased demand they had to restart their suppliers to get the materials back into their production line and then get it on the water to the US.

Sounded somewhat reasonable, but a little suspect too. I would check with your local retailer to see EXACTLY when they ordered it. If they waited a couple of weeks or more to actually order it then you might have been put farther back in line for the back order and not gotten in on the supposed first shipment that made it to their factory in the US from the factory in China (or where ever it came from).

Good luck! I’m crossing my fingers I’ll see mine in the next few weeks. (Did I really save anything buying it on sale and waiting 2 months for it?)

If what happened is what they said happened, I can live with that. The skeptic in me thinks this is something else. I can’t see a reason that this should take 5 months to deliver.

I picked this up today, and it’s up and running now.

It’s time to quit crying and move on. But, they have lost me as a customer from now on.
