Topic tags/keywords: front door mahogany stain finish

So we bought a Mahogany front door. I’m planning to finish it with McCloskey’s MAN O’ WAR, I believe unless there’s something that works just as well, applies easily, and is cheaper. Couple of questions, though.

For stain coloring, any suggestions? Just looking at standard Valspar and such, I see the cans say interior. I don’t think I want the stuff like Cabot and such that’s more for like fences. What are good brands/series of stain?

Second, when picking the Man O’ War, I’m wondering about finish. I don’t think Gloss. More trying to decide between satin and semi-gloss. Any experience what turns out the best look for front doors?

I used Penofin out door oil for Mahogany on my mahogany front door, 4-5 coats (dried in between) it’s been about twelve months an it still looks great. Rubbed it on with a rag let it sit for about fifteen minutes no drips or problems at all. The only caution is make sure to wipe it off or it will take years to dry. I would definitely use it again.
