Topic tags/keywords: tung oil poly water based polyurethane mineral spirits wipe on finish finishing help

Hey guys, I wanted to try my own wipe-on varnish. I mixed 1/3 parts Tung Oil, Mineral Spirits and Poly. However, I found bought a water-based poly. I want to switch to an oil based poly for my wipe on varnish. Should I sand it and start clean or can I wipe on the new finish over the previous.

Sand, plane, or scrape it off and start clean. Here is some reading on wipe on varnish you might find interesting.
