i am getting ready to start a rather large project and want to get some recommendations for good places online to purchase black cherry and walnut here in Ohio. wife wants new kitchen cabs and i have some other projects to do as well. i am interested in 4/4, 5/4 and 6/4 clean, problem-free lumber. who are you using? please let me know and many thanks in advance.

Best bet is to pick it up yourself. Gives you a change to ‘approve’ of what you are paying for and saves a bunch on postage.

If you feel like driving to western North Carolina, here is a CL ad for 350 bf of kiln dried Black Walnut for $4/sf.

Close to me and therefore I’ve been there lots is The Hardwood Store ( in Enon, OH which is right along I70 between Dayton and Springfield. Good selection of oak, walnut, cherry, poplar and many types of exotics. They are always pleasant and helpful.

I have been to CR Muterspaw Lumber which is south of Xenia once. They had a good selection of the cherry and walnut you are looking for. The owner was great to deal with.
