Is anyone else getting banner ads across zoomed in project photos like this? I don’t get them all the time and haven’t noticed them on my laptop but they come up from time to time on my iPad. Often they are blocking the picture as in the example. I can’t believe this is other than a glitch. I have no problem with ads, it’s business but this is …...... well …. really annoying. -- Paul M ..............the early bird may get the worm but it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese! http://thecanadianschooloffrenchmarquetry.com/ |

Yup. Glad you brought it up. It is genuinely annoying. -- "Everybody makes mistakes. A craftsman always fixes them." (Monty Kennedy, "The Checkering and Carving of Gunstocks", 1952) |

That is ridiculous. If you’re using firefox or chrome, install either “adblock plus” or “ublock origin” and never see ads again. -- Allen, Colorado (Instagram @bobasaurus_woodworking) |

No idea about Apple products but I use chrome and adblock works for me also so I haven’t seen it. BTW I got a steal on an 18 inch bandsaw if you need to do any re-sawing while in the desert. Myles |

It happened to me the other day but LJ website was struggling in other ways and was pretty unusable for a few hours so I just assumed it was another one of their “upgrades” having a problem. The ads in general have gotten more annoying lately. I opened someones project to take a peak and the the same hot pink ad was on the page 7 or 8 times. -- Nathan, TX -- Hire the lazy man. I use the free version of Adblock Plus with Internet Explorer and I never see any ads anywhere on LJs. -- Andy - Old Chinese proverb says: "If you think something can't be done, don't interrupt man who is doing it." |

I haven’t seen ad banners going right across photos. Yet. That’s just evil. Looking into Ad Block now. -- Mark |

I agree with BRIT… (NO, I have NOT seen anything like that) AdBlock seems to work really good in speeding up the website as well as removing UNWANTED Ads. Check-out Adblocks?? -- Have Fun! I work in IT, though not in web design specifically (not for many years, thank goodness, though choose your poison—I’m in IT security). The web developers have to make these things work with limited toolsets and try and make it display perfectly on screens of any size, like windows desktops with wide screens, laptops with older 3:4 screens, phones with tiny screens, ipads with medium screens…. believe me—the testing and design of this stuff would make your head spin. Yes, it’s necessary to have ads to support this free space we enjoy, yes they try not to have those unintended problems (their goal is to keep you coming and see more ads, after all), and no matter how much they try there will be some device someone tries that displays badly (a kindle? Amazon fire? Barnes and Noble reader?). And more out every day. That said, I hope they fix it, too. But be kind on these guys—there is probably all of one of them, and a contract employee at that, and doing the best they can given time and resources provided. Be kind and mention the problem with a request for a fix, and then…. maybe they have the resources or not. This resource is free to us—be kind and understand it takes a LOT to make this happen even though it seems ‘easy’ when we browse. :-) It looks good on my Linux with Firefox. Thanks. -- --bch |
